FINISHING FEBRUARY

I have a few pieces that I would like to bring to a close this month, one of which is the "Anatomy of a Felted Image" a demonstration that I am putting together for an upcoming workshop. Here we are several felted layers later (as per my last post regarding this project). Today I will add a bit of free motion stitching and this evening I will finish off with some hand stitching.

STORAGE SOLUTIONS

...something that I don't particularly excel at is being organized. I do, however enjoy rearranging the studio; stuffing, storing and stashing materials in all manner. We've been discussing "stash issues" in our Newsletter and with that thought, here's a little look at some London-Wul studio storage solutions.

Metal baskets for wool are wonderful both in the dye shed and in the studio. I collect them from old freezer chests.

Baskets, boxes and zipped bags fill storage shelving throughout the studio.

There's no reason why organizing can't be fun!

... and of course more baskets, baskets, baskets.

knitting needles beside the computer keyboard. If technology fails resort to the tried and true to get through the day!

Metal racks are hung over a double sink to dry fleece.

One must never underestimate the little things in life. Small pockets full of treasures can bring such joy!

The cutting and ironing table. Could it EVER be big enough? Up top are bales of washed wool. When there's no space left - move up:)

My Schacht spinning wheel with the trimmings. All cozy and unified so that I don't have to scramble when looking for a new bobbin or a different whorl.
Hall trees everywhere for those bits and pieces that you just can't hide away.

Rolling shelves are fantastic for moving around the studio as needed.

Angus likes to lay low in the back room. Sleeping among the stash.

Raw fleece stays outside in the dye shed. Along with pots, pans and drying racks.

MORE ABOUT READING

... Today's Discussion on RUG HOOKING DAILY is all about reading. Does what you read permeate your art work? Here's my thought. What do you think?

I think my reading does affect my art work. It is such an important part of my life that it must.
It opens new doors, introduces me to new people and lets me visit far away places - all of which exercises my mind and generates images...images, images.
It also makes me think. How clever and thoughtful and creative this author is, to have expressed such a thought. It pushes me to express myself in my own way.

Right now I am reading: Good To A Fault by Marina Endicott, Nikolski by Nicolas Dickner,
The Three Pines (Armand Gamauche) series by Louise Penny, Masters: Art Quilts,
Barnacle Love by Anthony De Sa and The Boys in the Trees by Mary Swan

I have just finished reading: Mercy Among The Children by David Adams Richards, Lullaby For Little Criminals by Heather O'neil, A Cure for All Diseases by Reginald Hill and
When You Are Engulfed in Flames by David Sedaris.

NO TIME FOR SLEEP

.... here's why I find myself failing by about 3 O'clock in the afternoon. Too many late hours of reading. Debates on these 5 Canadian titles begin March 8th. You still have time. Run. Run to your local indie book store!

SKETCH BREAK

I am planning to start some new pieces, both hooked and felted. Images are swimming around in my head to the point of overload.
Today I was sitting at my office desk, looking out at our old barns.
I globbed some paint into my sketchbook and allowed myself 5 or 10 minutes of play. I used only my hands; my fingers and nails. It felt wonderful. Like a 10 minute snack break. I feel better now.
