OH JOY

My RugHooking friend Joy walked right into the shop yesterday and presented me with this:
I should say that the last time Joy was in she was wearing one such flower which I shamelessly ogled the whole time she was here. Well didn't she go ahead and make one just for me? Thanks Joy! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. I love it just as much as chocolate...

SHOPKEEP

This month I have taken on the role of shop keep at london-Wul.
I am buzzing around the shop, tidying, tagging and best of all chatting with all who come along. I have been managing the shop from my place in the studio for several years now. This as opposed to the front role that I first played when the business was starting out.
It is lovely to be in the thick of things again, speaking with all of our visitors and helping out with project details, questions and color quandaries. For 10 years London-Wul has been my work in progress. Now I am enjoying this time spent in sharing the experience with our customers.
That being said, I am very fortunate to have a great support team, first and foremost the girls who help in the shop with all of the day to day activities. As the schedule would have it, both Sherri and Linda have taken some time to attend to life in general - as is good to do. I will be relieved in their return as the summer moves into full swing though, for the moment I will enjoy being right smack in the middle of it all!:)

SUMMER

.......... the summer line up will bring this little fellow to stay with us. At the moment he resides with my good friend at Kim Ellis Designs. Kim is a rug hooker, spinner, weaver and farmer (she wove the mat on which this little guy is perched). She's very "groovy" too. How great is that? A tall, blond, super slim in an oh so elegant way, sheep farmer and fibre artist. Best of all she has a heart of gold. She's been bottle feeding said lamb for the past few weeks after his having been unceremoniously deposited by an anonymous ewe who lays no claim whatsoever. Next week we will travel to pick him up and add him to the London -Wul fold:)

...... black and white, in the top right hand corner, embraced in a heap of siblings. That would be "Dottie" who will come to live with us in a few weeks time. Arnold has been without a dog for several months now (Angus is forever at MY side). Although we both projected a new pup sometime next year, it seems that the void was just too large. He found a photo of these little ones posted at the feed mill and soon went to have a visit. Mom is a Newf and dad is a Pyrenees/ Maremma. Dottie will be most likely be smaller than Angus (as are both her parents) no doubt they will make a good pair. .............. this summer will be full of "something new".

.... and finally, my summer reading has arrived. This year will be all about Donna Morrisey and Newfoundland. I have started with Kit's Law and will read through the collection in sequence. This will allow me to re-read Sylvanus Now which I absolutely loved the first time around. Lullabies for Little criminals by Heather O'Niel will add my native city of Montreal connection (thanks for the recommendation Matt) and I will settle back in New Brunswick with David Adams Richards who some find too dark but I find just..... real.

THE OUTING

Three of my Angora goats are just too darn delicate to stay in the"sheep barn" for the winter.
Instead they are sheltered in a more domestic setting along with the remainder of our aged angora rabbits. In the rabbit barn they enjoy a more insulated existence, however, by mid March cabin fever has set in.
We are just beginning to have opportunity for the odd spring stroll. Angus, Hazel, Maple, Butternut and I are quite a sight as we head down the farm lane.
This week, while on one such excursion, I decided that some fresh spring photos of the gang would be lovely and dashed into the house to grab a camera. When I opened the door to head back out my entourage was ready and waiting to come in
(notice poor Angus gets last dibbs on getting in the house).

...... and no, I didn't let them all the way in - despite some serious lobbying.

INDUSTRY

If taking my cue could have been any more obvious this week I can't think how.
My beautiful little studio finches have been so industrious that I couldn't help but be inspired to get right down to "building" things myself. So as these little wonders worked on a lovely new nest (nest #9) I too played with fibres, fabrics, threads and and things..................

INTO SPRING KNIT ALONG

A surprise Knit along following at the heels of our colour knitting project.
(for my part, re the color project, Otto the owl is complete minus assembly and stuffing:)

Tanya has used her knitterly ways to convince at least 8 regular London-Wullers to join her in knitting the Ladies February Sweater. hmmm...might a KAL be brewing?

This is an Elizabeth Zimmermann Pattern as modified by Pamela Wynne of Flint Knits to morph from baby sweater to fit "grown-ass women".
Though we are not the first to take up this project en mass (in case you haven't heard of a little old blog called the Yarn Harlot, we will be knitting this project along with 4,000 or so of our closest friends ), we invite you all to join in, sit and knit here at London-Wul or wherever you may be.
The London-Wul gang will be gathering to sit and knit or spin or just chat on Sunday afternoons...see you there.

PS. Yes - I'm in! (With steel grey 100% alpaca me thinks) It's top down for gosh sakes. How could I say no? ....Thank you Pamela, for this pattern!

CHANGE IS AS GOOD AS A REST

I am thoroughly enjoying the change to our winter schedule at the shop. Rest assured, however, that some things never change and while one of us in the studio has been changing the other has been resting. Hmm, well I at least, have been busier than ever working on new products as well as some of my own pieces during the beginning of the week and hosting a great new season of classes and workshops through the end of the week.

Beading yarns, carding batts, custom spinning, washing fleece and even re-inventing the shop space with a new knitting nook have been the order this month. Recharging batteries today (literally; on my camera:) studio pics to follow.......

My husband and I are both crafts people. Christmas time is all about filling the lists of others.
We gift one another, on no particular schedule. This month I made him a hat spun from the fleece of "one of our girls", "Lolly"). He gave me a bowl carved from a huge poplar trees that had fallen along the edge of our pond.
